Outdoor Adventure Camp: Summer 2022

2022 Outdoor Adventure Camp is a FREE summer camp community collaboration between Nature Niños New Mexico and Albuquerque Sign Language Academy. We will provide a hands-on, inclusive learning environment carefully tailored to support each student's unique needs to flourish and reach their full potential within the outdoors! Our priority is to encourage meaningful and lasting connections between our youth and the natural world. We hope to inspire a new generation of land, water, and wildlife stewards to protect and foster creative solutions to the long-term care of our planet while nature helps to nourish their social and emotional health and wellbeing.

  • All children attending must be entering 4th through 9th grades in August 2022.
  • A child is only eligible to attend ONE session of Outdoor Adventure Camp during summer 2022
  • Priority will be given to applicants attending a partnering school and/or low-income households.

Camps will run Monday - Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. for three 3-week sessions.
Session 1: June 6th - June 24th
Session 2: June 27th - July 15th
Session 3: July 18th - August 5th

2022 Outdoor Adventure Camp will be held at multiple locations across the city. We are working to solidify schedules with our partnering locations.

We MAY have transportation options offered but families will need to be prepared to drop off & pick up their child from any of the locations listed below as part of camp. We will also do our best to encourage carpool options with families in similar areas of the city.

Transportation & locations will be solidified and shared with all families that are offered a spot before they commit to accepting.

Meet Our Summer Staff

Liv Martinez - Camp Crew Leader

Liv Martinez was born and raised in the South Valley of Albuquerque, the community was her initial exposure to outdoor exploration. This facilitated a passion for conservation, leading her to employment with Rocky Mountain Youth Corps as a crew member and assistant crew supervisor. From there Liv interned with the U.S. Forest Service where she developed a Life Science curriculum for kindergarten students. After high school she studied briefly at Fort Lewis College majoring in Environmental Science with a concentration in botany. During the pandemic Liv moved back home where she began an assistant teaching job at a local daycare where she worked with children ages 3 to 5. In January of 2022, Liv joined the Nature Niños crew as an outdoor educator as well as our NASP certified basic archery instructor. She is stoked for the summer and building connections with your kids! Pilamayeksto! 

Raeonna Valley - Camp Co-Crew Leader

Hi there! I am Miss Raeonna or Ms. Rae for short. I've been working with kids for about 5 years now and love it! My favorite game to play is bingo, and hide and seek. I also love to play video games, & I'm a big Disney kid at heart. I look forward to meeting you all this summer! 

Kaylee Solecki - Crew Assistant (BLUE CREW)

Hi, my name is Kaylee. I will be a senior in high school this fall. I plan on majoring in biology or biochemical and then earning a teaching license to become a high school science teacher. I enjoy reading, drawing and crocheting. I'll be working as a Crew Assistant for Nature Ninos and I'm so excited to spend my summer with you! 

José Castañeda - Crew Assistant (GREEN CREW)

My name is José Angel Castañeda, I was born January 21, 2003. I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico where I attended Armijo Elementary School, Ernie Pyle Middle School, Rio Grande High School, and am currently attending the University of New Mexico. Recently I completed my first year of college and I am a Theater Major. Outside of academics, I enjoy playing soccer - I have been playing since I was 4 years old. I come from a family of 5 and am the youngest at 19 years old. I hope to make my family proud.

Jonah Arnett - Youth Counselor (BLUE CREW)

Hi there, my name is Jonah Arnett. I was raised here in Bernalillo, NM. I have two older brothers and a younger sister. I grew up with a love for playing basketball. I attended and graduated from Saint Pius X in 2021.

Asher Dixon - Youth Counselor (GREEN CREW)

Hi my name is Asher Dixon and I am 16 years old and am a homeschooled Junior. I am a black belt in Tae Kwon Do and have been playing soccer for 11 years. I enjoy working with kids and being outdoors. I can't wait to get to know all the campers this year and have a great time with them! 

Chandra Dreyer - Youth Counselor (GREEN CREW)

Chandra Dreyer, is one of the youth counselors. They're super artistic, enjoys painting, and hopes to become a tattoo artist one day. Chandra grew up in a large family with 6 siblings and their mom in a small farm town in IL, then moved to Albuquerque in 2018. They enjoy spending time outdoors by skating with friends or walking along the Rio Grande to paint the scenery. Chandra just graduated from high school and is super excited to have a job outdoors for the summer. They also have many pets including a poodle, chickens, rats, rabbits, and several reptiles. 

Arabella Hernandez - Youth Counselor (BLUE CREW)

Arabella Hernandez is a youth counselor at Nature Niños. Arabella grew up traveling across the country seeing different landmarks starting from a young age! This led Arabella to her love for waterfalls, apple farms, patches, trails, and animals! Arabella spends her time painting and creating new ideas for her art projects. 

Naomi Solecki - Youth Counselor (RED CREW)

My name is Naomi Solecki, I am a sophomore in high school, and I am going to be one of the youth counselors for Nature Ninos. I have done classes and camps in the past with them because of my own love for nature. I love being outside and exploring all the amazing plants and animals the world has to offer. I especially love animals and enjoy painting, drawing, learning and sharing what I have learned about them. I am excited for this summer and cannot wait to see where it goes. 

Amy Mathis - Substitute Counselor

Amy graduated from Kutztown University with a BFA in Music and Theater and she also holds a BS in Geology from New Mexico Tech. Amy has been a lifetime outdoor enthusiast with a focus on camping, backpacking, and hiking. She has been a dedicated instructor for local Cub Scout and Boy Scout organizations on Maui and currently here in Albuquerque where she teaches Basic Scouting Skills, assists in leading High Adventure outings, and is a Merit Badge Counselor. Her other interests include birding, plant identification, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, and gardening. Amy cares deeply about the world around us and understands that our children are our future.
