Shady Lakes Conservation Camp is a partnership between Shady Lakes Bass & Trout Fishing, the US Forest Service Rocky Mountain Research Station & Nature Niños New Mexico.

August 26th - October 28th

Each Wednesday from 9 AM- 1 PM

Ages 7-13

THIS IS A DROP OFF CAMP

During Shady Lakes Conservation Camp each child will have the opportunity to fish in the trout and bass ponds, all gear will be provided by Nature Niños. Each child will be allowed to catch, clean, and keep one trout per camp day.

Our camp days will be filled with conservation activities and education. We'll be helping to preserve and maintain the wonderful natural space that we are using by promoting stewardship through our actions! Cleaning up litter, identifying & removing invasive plant species, identifying & counting all of the amazing wildlife; from bees and dragonflies to turtles and Blue Herons. Place-based education will be provided with the use of Project Learning Tree and The Leopold Education Project curriculum through the Aldo Leopold Foundation.

If your child has the use of a cell phone, we would encourage them to bring it to utilize the iNaturalist app. iNaturalist is one of the world's most popular nature apps, iNaturalist helps you identify the plants and animals around you. Get connected with a community of over 400,000 scientists and naturalists who can help you learn more about nature! What's more, by recording and sharing your observations, you'll create research quality data for scientists working to better understand and protect nature. iNaturalist is a joint initiative by the California Academy of Sciences and the National Geographic Society.

Your child will need to bring:

  • Sun Screen
  • Bug Repellant
  • Lunch/Snack (we are unable to provide a way to keep lunches cool so please plan accordingly)
  • Hat/Sunglasses
  • Ziplock bag for personal trash
