Alameda Open Space

The Alameda Open Space is a great place for so many family activities! There are benches shaded by cottonwood trees at the beginning of the trail, you can hang out and relax by the water, ride bikes, or follow the many trails that run along the Rio Grande River. On the bank of the river, you can find seashells, tadpoles, frogs, lizards, cicadas, the occasional snake, and a plethora of birds. Dogs are allowed in this area as long as they remain on a leash. From this spot, you can take the shaded trails that follow right along the river or the ditch banks which are great for riding bikes. From the parking lot, you will take the pathed bike trail north under the bridge. Continue on that path and just over the hill you can take a right to follow the ditches, left to cross the bridge to the other side of the river, or continue straight to find the shaded picnic area and the trails that follow alongside the river. For easy stroller and wheelchair access the picnic area, the bridge, and the ditch banks will work best. The trails may be too sandy for wheels.
